Howdy friend,

Seth Godin wrote an article this week called UYBJ (Use Your Best Judgement). It's a short read, but one particular paragraph hit home. He writes:

"Don’t wait for someone else to take responsibility. Don’t wait for perfect. Don’t wait to find this exact situation in the manual or in history. Use your best judgment."

Sometimes, when faced with an ominous problem or task, I immediately look to others (a.k.a. the internet) for answers. I search Google, go through old tweets, pull up a few articles — I'm convinced there's a blueprint or framework out there that would make this difficult chore in front of me easier. I end up spending a lot of time focused on finding a path towards the shortest possible outcome instead of just rolling up my sleeves and getting to work.

Over time, I've found that having a "do it and then it's done" mentality is the best way to tackle any daunting task. And 99% of the time, done is better than perfect.

I'd love to get your thoughts on Seth's article and if you also struggle with getting started on hard problems, perfectionism, or analysis paralysis. What do you do to get the ball rolling?

High fives,

Matt Downey
